Laura Skaer, co-owner of the Five Points Hair Salon, is a well-rounded person, rich in experience, and dedicated to her work. Although born in California, Laura grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. She chose cosmetology as a career because it combined science (chemistry and technical detail) with artistic creativity, along with people-centered work. She studied at the South Eastern College of Cosmetology in Charlotte, where she received her certification in 1997. After that she assisted and trained with several master stylists, who went on to own their salons. Laura has worked in several major salons and has earned a well-deserved reputation for expertise and client responsiveness. She is keratin certified and has extensive training in several color product lines including Aveda, Wella, and Goldwell.
Laura joined the Five Points Hair Salon in 2011, and became co-owner in 2014. As a master stylist she enjoys close relationships with clients and opportunities to create her own color formulas with Aveda products. She also loves the opportunity, when warranted, to cut hair from long to short because it lets her work with each person’s natural hair movement. Her most basic belief is in customer satisfaction, which involves good listening skills for what clients want, making them feel comfortable, doing styling that works well for each lifestyle, educating without talking down, and making sure that clients leave the salon feeling good about themselves. Outside of the salon, Laura enjoys knitting, time with her pets (2 dogs and 3 chickens), yoga, film, and worldwide travel.
